Professional names & Publicly available information in reviews

YourChoice may collect and display the names of professionals acting in a public or professional capacity (for example, a teacher listed on a school website or a lawyer on a firm profile) so that reviews are correctly associated with the right provider. What we use and why:

  • Data involved: professional name, role/title, employer/organization, work contact details or links that are already public.
  • Source: publicly available pages (e.g., school/facility staff pages, firm sites) and provider submissions.
  • Purpose: to identify the provider being reviewed, organize listings, and help people make informed choices. Legal basis (PIPA) We process this information fairly and for a specific purpose under Bermuda’s PIPA, relying on:
  • Publicly available information used in a manner consistent with the purpose for which it is available; and/or
  • Legitimate interests in operating an independent reviews platform, balanced against individuals’ rights. We do not publish private information unrelated to a professional role.
  • Reviews must focus on professional conduct and avoid personal details (home address, personal phones/emails, family info, medical details, etc.).
  • We do not identify minors.
  • Where appropriate we may show first name + initial or restrict reviews to the organization page.

Right of reply and objections

Providers can claim their page to add context and reply to reviews. A provider (or authorized representative) may request access, correction, or object to our use of their name in reviews by contacting privacy@yourchoice.bm. We will assess requests under PIPA and may: (a) correct/update details, (b) switch to first-name + initial, (c) move reviews to an organization page, or (d) remove/limit display where justified.

Reporting & takedown To report misuse of names or other personal information, use in-product tools or email legal@yourchoice.bm. We may edit to remove PII or restrict content consistent with our Community Guidelines.

International transfers

We may process information outside Bermuda. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers. You can contact our Privacy Officer for details.

Retention

We keep information as long as needed to provide the Service, for legitimate interests such as moderation records, and to meet legal obligations. Deleted reviews may persist in backups or legal holds. For example, we may retain review content, moderation records, and related logs for longer periods to support platform integrity, prevent abuse, and meet regulatory or legal requirements.

Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may opt out of marketing at any time. To exercise your rights, contact privacy@yourchoice.bm. We may need to verify your identity.

We use cookies to operate and secure the Service, remember preferences, perform analytics, and support advertising. On your first visit, we present a cookie banner that lets you choose categories (for example, Necessary, Analytics, Advertising). You can change your choices anytime via the “Privacy settings” link in the footer. YourChoice honors recognized opt-out preference signals for targeted advertising where legally required.
